A major fire in Terrace shut down portions of the downtown area on Thursday morning, putting Terrace and Thornhill fire fighters to the test as they knocked down the blaze at Northwest Anglers.

Damage to the structure was such that the building will have to be demolished.

The controversial centennial totem pole that is currently in place at Centennial Park is set to be retired, with plans to replace it with a pole commissioned by a Haisla pole commissioned by a local carver.

April 5 -- Skeena candidates to discuss range of issues at Public Forum Thursday

The first all candidates forum in the current provincial election campaign will take place for the Skeena riding in Kitimat on Thursday, as NDP candidate Bruce Bidgood and BC Liberal candidate Ellis Ross discuss a range of issues at a public forum in that community.

The Council for International cooperation is hosting the event which will take place at the Kitimat Valley Institute it takes place from 7 - 9 PM

Former Kitimat Mayor Joanne Monaghan received honours for her past work on behalf of her community as the Federation of Canadian Municipalities was selected for the roll of honour from the municipal organization.

The ceremony to induct her into the roll of honour will take place in June in Ottawa.
